Dimensions of Temporal Construction in the Novel Just 2 Only by Ibrahim Nasrallah
Abstract
This study aims to unover the mechanisms of employing time in the novel Just 2 Only by Palestinian novelist Ibrahim Nasrallah, through the analysis of its three dimensions: artistic, factual, and psychological.
The pages of this article conclude that time in this novel operates on three intertwined levels:an artistic level that subverts narrative linearity through techniques of flashback and foreshadowing;a factual level that transforms major historical events into living experiences residing in the present rather than concluded past occurrences; and a psychological level that renders the inner time of
traumatized characters circular, perpetually returning to the moment of the original trauma.
