This article presents an overview of the work of the Research Team on Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers at the Scientific and Technical Research Centre for Arabic Language Development. The project culminated in a methodological guide intended for researchers preparing to conduct empirical studies or to design pedagogical materials in the field of Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL). In the light of the growing worldwide demand for learning Arabic, this domain has attracted growing scholarly and pedagogical attention. Accordingly, the article outlines the guide’s structure and contents, and details the methodological framework that underpins an instructional approach entitled “I Communicate in Arabic.” The method is designed primarily for adult French-speaking learners who seek to develop Arabic proficiency for general communicative purposes.
