Economic learning education and financial literacy among Indonesian students

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of economics learning outcomes, parents’ income, and students’ origin on the students’ financial literacy. The population of this study was high school students in Malang, using random sampling were taken proportionally using a multi-stage that considered the status of schools in Malang. The number of respondents 206 students. The data was collected by test and documentation techniques. The data were analyzed by multiple linear regression with a dummy variable of students’ origin. The analysis shows that economics learning outcomes have a positive effect on financial literacy, parents’ income has a positive effect on financial literacy, and the area of ​​students’ origin does not affect. The implications of these findings show an essential role of good economics learning in school. The better economics learning students get in school, the better the knowledge students will have. Therefore, it can encourage a better formation of financial behaviors.
